Osteopathy helps speed recovery from pneumonia

Pneumonia can be deadly if you’re elderly and infirm – but it’s a disease that can be treated effectively by osteopathy, researchers have discovered this week.

The technique, which involves the manipulation of muscles, reduces the time the patient spends in hospital, researchers from Michigan State University have found. Patients with pneumonia who had osteopathic treatment spent a day less in hospital compared to patients who had only conventional treatment.

Researchers, who tested osteopathy on patients at seven hospitals, believe that osteopathy should become part of the standard care for the pneumatic patient.
