Reflexology is Quackery [Podcast #004]

The National Council Against Health Fraud has issued statements to advise the media and the general public that reflexology has no therapeutic or diagnostic value for over two decades.  From my research it would seem that the basis of the Council’s opinion about reflexology today, is based on an unpublished 30 year old study, that questioned the ability of one part-time Reflexologist  to identify specific health issues on 70 individuals.

Listen to my podcast for more disturbing information relating to the reliability of statements issued by NCAHF.

Reflexology Prescribed by Medical Doctors in UK

As a last resort, insomniac Maria Fitzpatrick tried reflexology – with surprising results.

‘Have you had problems with your spine, madam?” There it is, I think to myself: the question that confirms that I was right to doubt reflexology. I would have been impressed, even hopeful, if the therapist, who knows next to nothing about me (except that I’m seeking a solution for chronic insomnia), had put his finger on my history of kidney problems while kneading my feet, or even found something disrupting the “energy pathway” to my tired brain.

My back – where I’m told there is a “blockage” – is possibly the only part of my body that has never caused me any trouble. It’s easy, at this moment, to see why many traditionalists believe reflexology practitioners to be nothing more than pseudo-science-peddling, fortune-teller masseurs laughing all the way to the bank.

And yet, the art of reflexology, which holds that every part of the body is “mapped” to a corresponding region of the feet, is positively booming in Britain. There are currently an estimated 35,000 reflexologists at work here, pummelling and prodding the nation’s soles – and, less commonly, hands – to provide relief for ailments such as sinusitis, asthma, allergies, migraine, angina and digestive complaints. New Research: IBS caused by bacteria in the gut

Far from being ‘all in the mind’ as some doctors still insist, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is caused by bacterial overgrowth in the gut, researchers have confirmed this week.

It affects up to 60 per cent of IBS patients who regularly suffer from diarrhea, and in 30 per cent of patients overall.

The link is so clear, say researchers from Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles, that a test for Continue reading “New Research: IBS caused by bacteria in the gut”

Homeopathy More Effective Than Conventional Medicine says Research Study

Every so often something happens that restores my faith in the power of the truth.  This rarely happens when it comes to health care. Modern medicine is one of the big, dangerous monoliths of our time, a stark symbol of the competitive mindset and the industrial age – the triumph of the machine over the human being.

Besides being one of the largest industries in the world, Big Pharma is probably one of the most dangerous.

Not long ago, the Journal of the American Medicine Association, the official organ of the primary organization representing physicians in America, publicly admitted that diseases caused by doctors—that is illness created by correctly prescribed medication —is the third leading cause of death in America, responsible for a quarter of a million deaths per year.   Continue reading “Homeopathy More Effective Than Conventional Medicine says Research Study”
